Composer's Note:
Pastourelle, for Violin and Chamber Orchestra, was written in 1991. It was inspired by the island of Guernsey, in particular its beautiful South coast. Picturesque sandy bays nestling under majestic granite cliffs. Dappled, wooded valleys with crystal clear streams trickling their way down to the sea. In Summer, warm and calm, with a heady scent of gorse and pine, the clicking of grasshoppers and cries of gulls. But with the Winter storms comes a transformation, wild and exhilarating. Whistling winds and dancing spray, ominous swells in a restless sea, the waves relentlessly pounding the rocks in an awesome reminder of nature’s power. Pastourelle appears on the 2024 album “Retrospection”.
